Test Fixture for Accurately Setting the Wrap Angle of Magnetic Tape Being Used to Test Tape Heads

A detachable and precision test fixture is disclosed which can be installed on a magnetic tape recording process analyzer being used to verify proper function of magnetic tape recording heads. The precision test fixture assures proper setting of the wrap angle of the magnetic tape being used in the functional verification testing of the recording heads.

As shown in Figure 1, the fixture 10 is comprised of a main plate, a subplate, shown generally combined at 11, and a master gauge block 12 for accurately positioning a capstan 13. In practice, the main plate is attached to the analyzer in close proximity to an adjustable capstan 13. The subplate, having accurately pre-positioned tape guide rollers 15 and a recording head housing 16, is installed onto the main plate using the precision-tooled and accurately located dowel pins 17 on the main plate. The proper wrap angle 19 of the magnetic tape 18 traveling over the recording head 20 is then set by installing master gauge 12, comprised of two gauged surfaces 21 and 22 at right angles, onto the subplate and accurately positioning the adjustable capstan 13 against surfaces 21 and 22. The master gauge block 12 is precisely installed onto the subplate using accurately located dowel pins 23 on the subplate.
