Abstract

The present technique is used in the Interactive Information Retrieval system described in [*]. Touching one of the icons at the bottom of the screen containing a varying-function selection area causes information to appear in the display which is based on the icon topic. In the figure, the user has touched the icon concerning offerings of the Museum of Modern Art. The icon assumes a raised position on the display, related text appears in the center window area and side tabs appear as indicated having the titles: "Exhibits", "Tours" and "Other" (information). The side tabs are boxed text. When these tabs are touch-selected, they provide supplemental information to the data on the screen. For example, if the user selects Tours, another display of text appears giving specific information on tours.

This text was extracted from a PDF file.
At least one non-text object (such as an image or picture) has been suppressed.
This is the abbreviated version, containing approximately 100% of the total text.

Interactive Information Retrieval System: Side Tab Selection

The present technique is used in the Interactive Information Retrieval system described in [*]. Touching one of the icons at the bottom of the screen containing a varying-function selection area causes information to appear in the display which is based on the icon topic. In the figure, the user has touched the icon concerning offerings of the Museum of Modern Art. The icon assumes a raised position on the display, related text appears in the center window area and side tabs appear as indicated having the titles: "Exhibits", "Tours" and "Other" (information). The side tabs are boxed text. When these tabs are touch- selected, they provide supplemental information to the data on the screen. For example, if the user selects Tours, another display of text appears giving specific information on tours. If the user selects Exhibits, specific exhibits are discussed. The selected tab changes color to identify it as having been selected and in process.
