Abstract

The known CRT touch display technology is modified and made suitable for automatic teller machine (ATM) "through-the-wall" use by providing a laminated touch panel consisting of specular, privacy, and contrast filters. The technique for mounting the laminated touch panel provides environmental sealing, circuit connection, and transducer pre-biasing. Fig. 1 shows a cross-section of the present embodiment of a laminated touch panel assembly. It is seen that a laminated face plate consisting of specular filter 1, lattice filter 2, and contrast filter 3, together with transducer 4 and its flat foil conductive circuit 5, are clamped together by front frame 6 and back frame 7 under controlled pressure provided by gasket 8. The laminated face plate is rectangular and curved to match the face of the CRT.

Fig. 1 shows a cross-section of the present embodiment of a laminated touch panel assembly. It is seen that a laminated face plate consisting of specular filter 1, lattice filter 2, and contrast filter 3, together with transducer 4 and its flat foil conductive circuit 5, are clamped together by front frame 6 and back frame 7 under controlled pressure provided by gasket 8. The laminated face plate is rectangular and curved to match the face of the CRT. There are four transducers, one at each corner. The assembly slips over the front of the CRT with a small gap between its face and the inner surface of the laminated face plate. Specular filter 1 has two functions. Firstly, coating and/or etching of the outside surface diffuses front surface reflections. Secondly, it is hard, tough, abrasion-resistant and has high impact and shatter resistance, thus providing vandalism protection. Filter materials meeting these requirements are commercially available. Lattice filter 2 is shown in Fig 2. It is seen that it includes regularly spaced louvers 9. It is seen that the depth 10 and spacing 11 of louvers 9 limit angle 12 and provide a degree of viewing privacy. Filter materials of this type are commercially available.
