Method for Placement of Minidisks

A method is described in which the operator doesn't have to worry about sector numbers of a minidisk during its creation.

In the new method, the starting and ending sector numbers for minidisks and free space are resolved by the minidisk manager to a minidisk location of high, medium, low, or a combination of these. The operator can request that a minidisk which he is creating be placed in a high, medium, or low location, and the concept of sector numbers is never presented.

Some personal computer systems which employ a hard disk file for data storage allow the operator to establish a "minidisk" as a relatively small subset of the main disk storage file. Since the format of the main disk is in sector numbers, the location of the minidisk on the minidisk must be defined in sector numbers.
