In a two layer photoconductor (PC) system using a charge generation layer (CGL) and a charge transport layer (CTL), an incr in dye concentration in the CGL will normally lead to an increase in sensitivity.

By using a squarylium dye in the CGL a fourfold improvement in cycle life, as measured by loss in sensitivity, is attained by optimizing the concentration of the squarylium dye in the range of 0.02 to 0.08 milligrams/inch. Lower and higher concentrations of dye do not afford this level of improvement.

The CTL can be a normal layer such as a polymer layer containing hydrazones.
