Abstract

Modules are described to provide a means of connecting wiring or other tap connections to a group of busbars, that are, although nearby the component to be connected, somewhat loosely aligned, without having a separate, remotely located connector. Referring to Fig. 1, four busbars 1 are assembled side-by-side to provide three electrical phases and a ground connection. More or fewer busbars could be used, depending on the overall circuit requirements. Tabs 2 are formed from each busbar to become the male terminal in the connector combination. The locations of the tabs and the matching openings in the insulator and female connector are staggered in a way to simplify terminal numbering and to prevent connector reversal, which could be hazardous.

The locations of the tabs and the matching openings in the insulator and female connector are staggered in a way to simplify terminal numbering and to prevent connector reversal, which could be hazardous. Insulator 3 is secured to the busbar assemblage in the tab area to provide protection against personal contact with the busbar tabs and to aid in alignment and retention of the female connector. For clarity, the normal busbar insulators 5, which are shown in Fig. 4 and which extend the length of the busbars, are not shown in Fig. 1. Because the tabs extend from the edge of each busbar, they lend themselves to selective electroplating for contact surface enhancement. The edges of the tabs are chamferred to facilitate mating with the female terminal which is flared to provide self-alignment over a limited range.
