Abstract

The FSX Screen Documentation Tool is a REXX EXEC, which is used to print on paper a facsimile of terminal screen contents which have been previously defined in the user's REXX EXEC using FSX statements. Using the SAY command, the REXX system variable FSXDEFAULT is written to the user's console device after the console device has been SPOOLED START to the user's virtual reader. After the SAY command, the console is closed, sending the resulting file to the user's virtual reader. The file is then read onto the user's A disk. The XEDIT editor is then called upon to translate several 3270 non-display characters to blank. These characters might otherwise cause invalid and unwanted printer control actions to take place during printing of the screen.

FSX Screen Documentation Tool

Also, SCRIPT commands are imbedded in the file to draw a box around the screen and to cause double spacing on the printed output. After XEDIT stores the resulting file, SCRIPT is invoked to format the screen facsimile. The resulting formatted file is then printed using PDOC or PRINTX.
