Cleaning Glass Fibers

It has been found that plasma can be used to clean epoxy, sizing and coupler-finish from glass fibers.

Glass fibers are used in the manufacture of printed circuit boards. There are known tests for the quality of glass fibers. These tests are generally used to test the glass fibers prior to the time that the glass is fabricated into pre-preg or into finished boards. These tests are generally not applicable to test the fibers after the fibers have been fabricated into pre-preg or finished boards.

It has been found that plasma technology can be used to remove material from glass fibers so that conventional quality tests can be applied to fibers after they have been manufactured into pre-preg or into finished boards. This process can, therefore, be used to unlayer a defective board to determine caused the defect.
