Abstract

A second level package containing stacked printed circuit (PC) boards or the like is sealed with a cover having removable self-adhering louver members between which extend the input/output (I/O) cables servicing the PC boards and the integrated circuit (IC) modules mounted thereon. Cover 10 has a rectangular frame-like base 11 with latching members 12 that coact with mating members (not shown) located on the second level package assembly frame (not shown) adjacent the opening (not shown) thereof to be covered and sealed by cover 10. The ends of triangular-shaped louver members 13 are mounted in oppositely aligned slots 14 of base 10 so as to provide an interference-type fit between mounted adjacent members 13. Members 13, and preferably base 10 as well, are made of a self-adhering pliable foam which maintains its moulded form.

Self-Sealing Louver Cover

The wide rectangular-shaped base portion 13B maintains mounted adjacent members 13 in contacting and self-adhering and sealing relationship therebetween and provides a conformal fit and/or seal about the servicing I/O cables, e.g., flat cables 15, passing between adjacent members 13. Access to any PC board mounting site (e.g., for the purpose of inserting or removing a PC board) within the package assembly can be done without removing the base 10 by simply removing one or more of the members 13 aligned with the particular PC mounting site. The vertex portion of the member 13 provides for finger clearance and grippi...
