Abstract

A printhead has its electrodes arranged in a straight line at an angle that does not coincide with any of the slanted characters or part characters to be printed. This enables the electrodes to be closer together and/or to be wider so as to improve the print quality while also obtaining visibility of the written line. A printhead 1 is rotatably mounted on a carrier (not shown) for rotation about an axis R-R while being movable with the carrier. The printhead 1 has electrodes 2 arranged in a column along a straight line on an axis A-A, which lies in the same plane as a flat platen 3 having a sheet 4 of paper on which the electrodes 2 cause printing through cooperating with a resistive ribbon 5. The angle of the slant of the electrodes 2 from the vertical is indicated between the axis A-A and an axis Y-Y.

A printhead 1 is rotatably mounted on a carrier (not shown) for rotation about an axis R-R while being movable with the carrier. The printhead 1 has electrodes 2 arranged in a column along a straight line on an axis A-A, which lies in the same plane as a flat platen 3 having a sheet 4 of paper on which the electrodes 2 cause printing through cooperating with a resistive ribbon 5. The angle of the slant of the electrodes 2 from the vertical is indicated between the axis A-A and an axis Y-Y. The axis Y-Y is perpendicular to an axis X-X, which is the axis of the ribbon 5. The inclination of the printhead 1 to the platen 3 is indicated by an angle between the axis X-X and an axis H-H, which lies in the plane of the printhead 1. As the printhead 1 moves to the right by movement of the carrier, the ribbon 5 is stripped from the paper 4 by stripping post 6, which is mounted on the carrier having the printhead 1 rotatably supported thereon. The stripping post 6 has its axis P-P parallel to the platen 3 and to the axis A-A. The stripping of the ribbon 5 from the sheet 4 of paper results in the used portion of the ribbon 5 being parallel to the platen 3 and below the visible written line. This enables viewing of the visible written line by the user. The stripping angle is between an axis S-S, which is in the plane of the stripped ribbon 5, and an axis B-B, which lies in the plane of the platen 3 and is perpendicular to the axis A-A.
