Magnetic Drop Recording Indicator

This device provides a visual indication that a box of diskettes has been demagnetized.

The concept of this invention is to use a small magnet 1 that adheres to a steel strip 2. When the indicator (Figure 1) is exposed to a magnetic field and demagnetized, the magnet 1 will drop to the bottom 3 of the transparent plastic capsule 4, indicating the product this indicator was affixed to was demagnetized. A pressure sensitive self adhesive 5 is used to m the indicator to a product. The top part of the capsule 4 may be coated black to conceal a white or green magnet 1. When the demagnetized magnet drops into the lower clear capsule section, it indicates to an observer that demagnetization is completed. The steel strip 2 is glued to the capsule inside.

This concept is extended to include a number of magnets (Figure 2) that have coercivity incremental increases and will only drop up to the maximum oersted field applied. In Figure 2 the maximum field applied was 350 oersteds.
