Cable Housing Retainer

An inexpensive cable housing retainer with clip-on bracket and damping pads can accommodate variations in temperature and dimensions of a plurality of cable housing while maintaining reliable engagement of the housings and mating pins.

In the figure, a molded retainer 1 has a plurality of depending dividers 2 into each of which is inserted a pair of inverted T-shaped damping pads 3. Each pad engages shoulders 4 of adjacent cable connector housings 5. The pads can be extruded from a deformable polymer that provides a resilient restraint to housing motion. Retainer 1 carries elastic clips 6 that accept metal reinforcing bracket 7. Polarity clips 8 are spaced along the retainer to engage cross members 9 and prevent incorrect assembly.
