Relative Triboelectric Charge Measurement

A xerographic copier often requires the use of parts which are triboelectrically neutral with respect to the toner used in the copier, in order to reduce the accumulation or buildup of toner on parts such as in a developer, auger system, replenisher, etc.

A test of such parts consists of utilizing a fluidized bed to fluidize the toner in air. Various different part materials, of equal area and smooth surface, are weighed, and then dipped into the fluid toner bed for a fixed time (5 to 10 seconds). The amount of toner retained on the part relates directly to the triboelectric relationship between the material and the toner.
