Air Duct Seal

An air duct seal is described which overcomes the limitations of a seal constructed from a single material.

In Fig. 1, Seal 10 is composed of two annuli 11, 12. Outer molded ring 11 is made of a rubber material such as ethylene propylene diene elastomer (EPDM) and encloses annulus 12 which is composed of a polyether open cell foam.

In Fig. 2, annulus 11 is snapped over duct 13 and is compliant enough to afford a secure seal. Mating duct 14 is bu against annulus 11. Annulus 12 provides a long lasting spring force against duct 14 through annulus 11 to ensure a tight seal.

In this manner the optimum properties of both materials are utilized. The ring is readily replaceable as needed.
