Abstract

A quick disconnect coupling is located in the inlet hose and in the outlet hose of the chilled water system for the cold plate of a circuit module. A valve is located one each side of the quick disconnect, one upstream of the quick disconnect and one downstream in both the inlet hose and the outlet hose. The valv can be turned 90 degrees between a position in which the body of the valve blocks coolant flow and an open position in when a hole through the valve is aligned with the bore of the valve body. The quick disconnect has a conventional sleeve that holds a set of balls normally in a position to lock the two halves of the coupling together. When the sleeve is moved backward from the coupling, the balls release the coupling.

When the sleeve is moved backward from the coupling, the balls release the coupling. The quick disconnect is arranged so that the direction of releasing the sleeve is arranged so that the direction of releasing the sleeve is away from the cold plate and toward the cooling water supply or return piping. The valve in this direction carries an interlock arm that blocks the quick release coupling sleeve unless the valve is in its closed position. Normally, maintenance personnel close all four valves before releasing either quick disconnect coupling, but the interlock prevents opening a valve under press
