Abstract

A simulation model utilizes the General-Purpose Simulation System (GPSS) language to simulate manufacturing scenarios. The model is parameter driven and contains eight random number tables to create random chance events. A computer evaluation of all manufacturing elements and variables assists in planning and optimizing the manufacturing process. The simulation works in the following manner. The program requests certain data that describes the manufacturing area to be analyzed, e.g.

General-Purpose Manufacturing Simulation

A simulation model utilizes the General-Purpose Simulation System (GPSS) language to simulate manufacturing scenarios. The model is parameter driven and contains eight random number tables to create random chance events. A computer evaluation of all manufacturing elements and variables assists in planning and optimizing the manufacturing process. The simulation works in the following manner. The program requests certain data that describes the manufacturing area to be analyzed, e.g., number of machines in each manufacturing area, quantity of product to be manufactured, list of manufacturing operations, yield loss history, number of workers, manufacturing equipment breakdown history, duration of operation (hours per day, total days in operation, how many shifts will be used), how many parts are to be produced, product flow, manhours involved, the sequence of operations that are involved, etc. After all information is input, the generic model is used in a computer run to answer all questions that pertain to the simulation of the manufacturing area being modeled.
