Abstract

In the IBM Graphics Product 5668-941, the three basic data models are point, span and control facilities. Each is attached to an absolute point via the point connectors. A point facility models, for example, an electric pole while a span facility can represent a power line. Both can be connected logically, or electrically, depending on how the point connectors are displayed in a work space screen. A water valve may locate at one point, but it has two different connections, for example, to two different ends of two span facilities, and both ends and the valve itself are located at one point. The valve is modeled by the control facility. The span facilities are well suited for a distribution network system.

Polygon Data Model

In the IBM Graphics Product 5668-941, the three basic data models are point, span and control facilities. Each is attached to an absolute point via the point connectors. Both can be connected logically, or electrically, depending on how the point connectors are displayed in a work space screen. The valve is modeled by the control facility. The span facilities are well suited for a distribution network system. They can also be used to model a polygon system, but it takes a lot of human and machine resources in order to design and then to maintain the system. This disclosure shows the utilization of a new data model consisting of polygon connector and polygon facility which significantly reduce the resource requirements. A polygon connector is the same as a point connector except for the following: 1. No more than one polygon connector can be under each absolute point, and it must be the first point connector in the chain. 2. Each polygon connector is a variable data segment having addresses pointing at any polygon facility related to its location.
