Linear Feed Air Track

A linear feed air track serves as a conveyor system for the transport of substrates in a manufacturing environment. The track is designed in a manner that protects the substrate circuitry from risk of damage. The track works as follows.

The track is constructed of nylon and consists of a base 1 which contains drilled holes 2 that emit air at 30OE angles from an air manifold 3 (seen in enlarged view B in drawing) to propel substrates (not shown) along the track in the desired direction (as indicated by arrow). The angled holes 2 provide an air cushion that lifts the substrates up from the base 1 and moves the substrates along the track by means of a top retaining rail 4 that directs and restrains the substrate due to a t-slot 5 (seen in end view) in the rail 4. The t-slot 5 guides the substrate through the rail 4 by the edges of the substrate, thereby preventing damage to the circuitry (which does not come into con with the track).
