Palladium Plating Technique

Piezoelectric ceramic tubes, used for ink jet printing and already plated with nickel, can easily be given an overplate of palladium that significantly improves resistance to corrosion.

Palladium plating is added to the nickel coating on the tubes by replacing the nickel film with a palladium seed layer using galvanic reaction and electrolessly depositing a palladium film over the seed layer. This process produces non- porous films with good adhesion. The ceramic tubes can be plated first with nickel in those cases where the tubes have no conductive coating.
