Abstract

For impact printer characters, a material with a monocrystalline structure, such as silicon, is used. The characters may be anisotropically etched from this material (wafer) by known methods and be fixed to the type carrier (band) also by known methods, such as bonding. Silicon as a material has the advantage that the characters made of it are highly wear-resistant and true to shape, which, in turn, ensures a high print quality.
