Acoustic Seal

An acoustic seal for a machine cover, having a large cavity on either side of a smaller central core cavity, enables the side cavities to collapse about the core and accommodate greater deflection.

In the figure, an acoustic seal of flexible molded polymer is shown in cross- section and comprises enclosed large cavities 1 and 2 on either side of core cavity 3. An attachment flange 4 extends from the wall of cavity 2 and an abutting surface 5 forming cavity 6 extends from the wall of cavity 1. The curved walls of cavities 1 and 2 permit easy collapse about core cavity 3 and provide effective sealing and surface conformance a wide dimensional tolerance.
