Optical Scanning and Digital Conversion of Image and Analog Information

An analog-to-digital conversion system for processing short bursts at high information rates is shown.

An analog signal, which is to be converted to digital form, is fed into a conventional display driver and displayed on a cathode-ray tube display. A TV camera scans the face of the CRT display and the time taken from the beginning of each scan until the intercept of the displayed wave form is determined. This time is then correlated in a correlator to provide a digital measure of the displayed analog signal at each of the points along the analog signal.
