Card Deck Pressure Control

The device controls the weight of a deck of document cards 10 so that the entire weight of the deck is not concentrated on the lowermost card making it difficult to pick from the bottom of the deck.

Cards 10 are disposed in hopper 11 and are held from downward movement by support plates 12. Card pick mechanism 13 moves a card 10 from the bottom of the deck laterally through a card throat 14 between card propelling rolls 15 and
16. A lever 17 pivoted at 18 has one end of it connected to a platen 19 disposed below the card deck 10 and has its other end connected to a pressure member 20 in contact with the side of the card deck. The weight of the deck of cards 10 causes lever 17 to rotate in the counterclockwise direction putting pressure against the edges of the deck of cards through pressure member 20 so as to choke the downward flow of cards in hopper 11 to maintain a constant load on the bottommost card 10 and the card supports 12. In lieu of lever 17, platen 19 could actuate a pressure sensitive switch controlling an electromagnet which actuates pressure member 20.
