Time Base Generator

This generator provides accurate time bases by counting pulses from a master oscillator 10 and is set into operation by an emitter pulse on lead 12 applied to flip-flop 14.

The generator includes six triggers TR1-TR6. An emitter pulse on lead 12 sets flip-flop 14 thereby satisfying AND circuit 16 for providing a succession of oscillator pulses to triggers TR1-TR6. TR1-TR6 are connected in a shift register configuration with an exclusive OR 18 gating TR1 which allows the counter to cycle through 2 -1 states in a synchronous mode without requiring any interstage gating (N = the number of stages in the counter). The six-trigger counter has a maximum of 63 states; and each of AND circuits 20, 22, and 24 has six signals impressed on it indicative of the outputs of triggers TR1-TR6.

Decode gating trigger TR7 connected to AND circuit 20 provides time base 1; decode trigger TR8 connected to AND circuit 22 provides time base 2; and decode trigger TR9 connected to AND circuit 24 provides time base 3. Decode gating TR7 controls the period of the counter through OR circuit 26 and resets triggers TR1-TR6 to zero. The next oscillator pulse clocks TR7 off and advances the time base generator triggers TR1 through TR6 to their first nonzero state. The triggers TR1-TR6 are of the type that allow a simultaneous synchronous advance pulse and a DC set or reset, and this capability allows the simplified design.
