Zero Insertion Force Connector

Contact pressure for this connector is varied by ramps 10 which engage contacts 12 and vary the pressure they exert on board 14 as the walls 16 move relative to the other portions of the connector.

While the board 14 is being inserted into the aperture for the connector, the pressure exerted on the contacts 12 by the ramp surface 10 is small so the contact pressure is minimal or zero. However, once the board has been received, the walls 16 are slid laterally causing a thicker portion of the ramp surface 10 to engage the contacts 12, bend them, and exert sufficient pressure on the board 14 for good electrical connection.
