Abstract

This circuit provides an Exclusive OR function using orthoferrite technology. The figures show a block diagram in A, a truth table in B, and the permalloy pattern in C of an orthoferrite platelet for the circuit. The solid line is the permalloy pattern on the top overlay and the dotted lines are the permalloy pattern on the bottom overlay.

Exclusive OR Bubble Circuit

This circuit provides an Exclusive OR function using orthoferrite technology. The figures show a block diagram in A, a truth table in B, and the permalloy pattern in C of an orthoferrite platelet for the circuit. The solid line is the permalloy pattern on the top overlay and the dotted lines are the permalloy pattern on the bottom overlay.

Where two bubbles are applied to the circuit the 11 condition of the truth table occurs.

At time point 1 the bubbles from the generators A and B will be pulled toward positions 10 and 20. As the field rotates through to time point 4 the bubbles are separated from the generator and rest at positions 13 and 23. On the second field rotation at time point 1, the bubbles will jump to positions 14 and 24. At time point 2 the bubbles will attempt to go to position 15 and 25 but will repel each other and remain at positions 14 and 24. At time point 3 annihilation takes place due to the squeezing effect of the top and bottom horizontal permalloy bars. At time point 4 nothing occurs without bubbles in the system. Thus, the 11 input condition provides no output. Obviously the 00 input condition also provides no output.

For the 01 or 10 input condition the bubble proceeds through the circuit as before but is not blocked at position 15 or 25 and proceeds on through to position 31 which is the output. The output can be cascaded into another circuit or terminated at a bubble eater or another annihilator. Thus, a pl...
