A diazo sensitized coating and a magnetic oxide coating are combined on opposite surfaces of a single data recording card thereby providing visual and magnetic recording capability. The magnetic oxide is coated onto a paper web or onto a MYLAR* substrate in a conventional manner. When a paper card is desired, the back of the paper web containing the magnetic oxide is coated with an ethylene acetate copolymer which forms an adhesive layer as well as a barrier layer preventing a subsequently applied diazo solution from penetrating. Thereafter, a second paper layer is laminated to the adhesive layer and coated with a diazo material in liquid form.

When a plastic card is desired, a white pigmented adhesive such as an ethylene acetate copolymer containing titanium dioxide particles dispersed in toluene is applied to the back of the MYLAR layer containing the magnetic oxide. Thereafter, a second clear MYLAR layer is coated with a transparent diazo coating and laminated to the adhesive layer. * Trademark of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co.
