Abstract

When a suspension layer of light-absorbing particles is subjected to simultaneous imagewise exposure through a transparent electrode carrying the suspension layer while a blocking electrode in contact with the other side of the suspension layer is electrostatically charged, noticeable streaking is observed during the particle image formation.

Elimination of Streaks in Photoelectrophoretic Color Image Process

When a suspension layer of light-absorbing particles is subjected to simultaneous imagewise exposure through a transparent electrode carrying the suspension layer while a blocking electrode in contact with the other side of the suspension layer is electrostatically charged, noticeable streaking is observed during the particle image formation.

This streaking can be overcome by, prior to the imaging step, uniformly exposing the suspension layer to light and electrostatically charging the blocking layer at a lower potential than during the imaging step. It is believed that this pre- exposure and charging step causes the suspension layer to become more homogenous.
