Card Handling Drive Means

This is a means for driving a card 10 or similar document around a circular path past magnetic head 30 while maintaining registration of the card against surface 40.

Drum 50 is rotated about axis 56. Attached to the periphery of drum 50 is friction pad 52 of, for example, 60 durometer rubber. Card 10 is carried in a circular path by drum SO, and is pinched between pad 52 and idle rollers, not shown, positioned at intervals in base 20.

When not carrying a card, cup portion 54 of pad 52 rides in groove 22 as shown at position 54a. When a card 10 is inserted into the mechanism, cup 54 is deflected to position 54b - a distance D - thereby imparting a registering force to the card.
