Wire Carrier for Ultrasonic Bonder

A disposable wire carrier for temporary attachment to an ultrasonic bonder tip improves convenience and accuracy of aligning wires to be welded.

Wires 1 to be bonded are first secured in end locating grooves 2 in carrier 3. The carrier is preferably of a thermoplastic material in which the wire ends can be heat sealed. The carrier aligns the wires with the tip grooves 4 as the carrier is slid onto tip 5. Upon properly locating the bonding tip and wires, the bonder is energized to weld the wires in place. Thereafter, with tip 5 still held against the wires, the carrier is pulled farther onto the tip by a retracting finger or tweezers a distance sufficient to sever the wires from the carrier. The carrier is subsequently discarded.
