Abstract

A power supply package which imparts freedom from electromagnetic field interference, high-humidity resistance and high frequency and corona free operation utilizes a die cast aluminum container 10 having a die cast, stake attached, cover 12. Container 10 is filled with silicon rubber potting compound 13 Which encapsulates a transformer 14 and other power supply elements 16, 18 which are interconnected to deliver high-voltage power to output cable 20. Cover 12 mounts power transistor 22 and has integral cooling projections 24 which dissipate heat from 22 and other elements of the assembly. Cover 12 also has mounting posts 26 for a circuit card 28 carrying control circuitry elements 30 for the supply.

Complete encapsulation of initially unencapsulated components 14, 16, 18 of the high-voltage assembly is provided for minimization of cost, facilitating heat dissipation, and reduction of distributed capacitance. The capacitance reduction allows high frequency, efficient operation. This is particularly important in high- voltage supplies for cathode-ray tubes where distributed capacitance may be a major portion of the load. Also, the efficient shielding is useful in cathode-ray tube supplies since it reduces electromagnetic interference.
