Abstract

Tape 10 issues from supply reel 40 and is wound on take-up reel 42. Rollers 44, 46, shown within chain line 48 representing the outlines of a tape cartridge, are arranged to guide tape 10. The cartridge is placed in the machine and web 10' is pulled out for manual loading. Tape 10 is wrapped around roller 14', former 12, roller 16', and between drive capstan 50 and pressure roller 52. Rollers 14' and 16' are mounted on levers 54 and 56. Lever cam 58 fixed to rotating shaft 24 bears on cam followers 60 and 62 for positioning levers 54 and 56 in the incrementing cycle. Springs 64 and 66 urge arms 54 and 56, respectively, toward lever operating cam 58. Incrementing looping cam 68 is also fixed to rotating shaft 24.

Tape looping roller 70 is carried on tape looping rod 72 having a cam follower 74 in contact with tape looping cam 68. Rod 72 is carried in pillow blocks 76 and 77. A compression spring 78 is arranged between outer block 77 and collar 79 for urging cam follower 74 toward looping cam 68. Looping roller 70 is thrust forward by operation of cam 68 to pull a loop shown by the dotted lines 80 and outer position 70' of roller 70. Rollers 84 and 86 are resiliently urged against the web of the tape to maintain the balance of the tape against former 12. Rollers 84 and 86 are preferably arranged to move outwardly of former 12 for inserting the web of the tape between the rollers and former 12.
