A proportioning device provides a mixture of two liquids in a constant ratio regardless of the flow rate to produce the dialyzing fluid in an artificial kidney machine. No external driving means is required other than the flow of the liquids which are mixed.

Liquid A enters inlet 1 and is maintained at a constant level 2 in dipper pool compartment 3 by operation of valve float 4 and control valve 5. Left chamber 7 of the two-chamber tipping bucket 8, divided by bucket partition 9 is filled from inlet 6 which is connected to a reservoir, not shown, of liquid B. When level 10 of liquid B in chamber 7 is sufficient, a counterclockwise rotation occurs around axle 11 which is supported by knife-edge bearings 12. When counterclockwise rotation occurs, liquid B pours from left chamber 7 into receiver/mixer compartment 13, while a measured amount of liquid A is poured into compartment 13 by dipper 14, which is also mounted on axle 11.

After bucket 8 and dipper 14 are tipped into their counterclockwise position, liquid B fills right chamber 15 of bucket 8 until tipping occurs in the clockwise direction and liquid B is again poured into compartment 13.
