Codeline Controlled Read Out of Mark Read Data

This is a document layout for economizing on components in MICR or OCR document readers, where additional limited mark reading is required.

Instead of a few vertical columns of mark read constraints, a single horizontal row of constraints is provided on a document together with appropriate timing marks.

The characters and the marks are read simultaneously. The characters are transferred directly to a utilization device, whereas the mark read data are stored in the reader. Towards the end of the codeline a field is reserved containing as many zero's as there are multiples of eight constraints in the mark read row. If mark read information has been entered, that information is transmitted to the utilization device in byte form with an appropriate parity bit instead of the zero's. If there is no mark read information the codeline zero's are transmitted.
