Capacitive-Coupled Connectors for Gaseous Discharge Display Panels

This is a method for connecting the electrodes of a gaseous-discharge display panel to the drive circuits. The connection is made by means of a capacitive coupling which permits rapid replacement of the panel.

A matrix of electrodes 10 - 24 for a gaseous-discharge display panel is placed within gas-filled envelope 25. Electrodes 10-16 are arranged in columns, and electrodes 18-24 are arranged in rows. electrodes 10-24 are spaced at their intersections. each electrode 10-24 of the matrix is connected to a land terminal 26 which is outside envelope 25. Terminals 26 permit electrodes 10-24 to be electrically connected to drive circuits which control the potential between the electrodes and thus the gaseous discharges. The driver circuits are fabricated on a circuit board having its electrical connections made to land terminals which are aligned with terminals 26 of the matrix. The lands are then coated with an insulating layer.
