Abstract

This is a keyboard entry device, with an optical encoding arrangement in which each key has associated therewith, a corresponding normally closed shutter 1, 3, 5 having a coded light transmission characteristic. The combination includes means 11 for illuminating each shutter with a solid light transmitting block 7, having a partially coated reflective surface 9 and means, not shown, is responsive to each key actuation for operating the associated shutter. A plurality of light responsive devices 19, 21, 23 are responsive to a plurality of light pipes 13, 15, 17 which transmit the coded light patterns passed by the associated operative shutter to the light responsive devices.
