Abstract

A conventional fully associative store has, between the bus register and the store, a mask register MASK 1 which is loaded from MASK STORE 1 to define search and read/write fields. It is proposed that a Second mask register MASK 2 be located between the bus register and the bus B to define the fields of the bus register to which the bus is connected. This arrangement leads to greater regularity in bus] wiring and greater efficiency in the use of the store, since intermediate data in an operation can be masked from the bus and not interfere with the operation of other units. MASK 2 can be loaded from MASK 1 or a separate store MASK STORE 2. MASK 2 can be bidirectional or unidirectional. In the latter case an extra register MASK 3 is provided.
