Abstract

An unattended terminal having a printer and a magnetic card reader/recorder is provided with a transmit latch which prevents received data from being recorded over prerecorded magnetic cards. Magnetic cards having recorded information to be transmitted over a communication line are loaded into card hopper 11. Blank cards adapted to receive information from the communication channel are also loaded into the card hopper 11 on top of the prerecorded cards. The cards are sequentially bottom fed from hopper 11 past read/write head 13 into stacker 15. Line control unit 17 controls the transmit/receive status of the terminal. When transmitting, information previously recorded on the card passing the read/record head 13 is sensed and transmitted over a communication line.

Unattended Transmit and Receive Terminal

When receiving, incoming data is gated to the read/record head 13 for recording on a blank card and/or routed to printer 19.

To prevent recording incoming data over prerecorded information which is to be transmitted, latch 21 is set by operator depression of a transmit key indicating that cards having data to be transmitted have been loaded into hopper 11. Latch 21 is reset whenever an end of transmission code is detected by read/record head 13 indicating that the last card having information thereon has been read. When latch 21 is set, AND gate 23 prevents incoming data from being recorded onto a magnetic card and AND gate 25 causes all such data to be printed i...
