Abstract

The drawing shows a tape cassette of the type having a reel 2 carrying a tape 3 enclosed in a housing 4. In mounting the cassette on a hub 5 and against a flange 6, the tape may slide axially so that the outermost layers of the tape hit against the right wall of the housing and the left wall of the tape reel hits against the left wall of the housing. This construction limits the mounting shock to less than the frictional force of the tape layers and thereby prevents binding.

Spring Mounted Cartridge Hub

The drawing shows a tape cassette of the type having a reel 2 carrying a tape 3 enclosed in a housing 4. In mounting the cassette on a hub 5 and against a flange 6, the tape may slide axially so that the outermost layers of the tape hit against the right wall of the housing and the left wall of the tape reel hits against the left wall of the housing. This construction limits the mounting shock to less than the frictional force of the tape layers and thereby prevents binding.

The cartridge hub 5 is driven from a shaft 7 held in a bushing 8 arranged to slide axially on the shaft. A compression spring 9 and washers 10 hold hub 5 outward in its normal operating position. The spring force is set to maintain the mounting force on the cassette less than the friction force of the tape to prevent binding.
