Abstract

Coaxial wires 10,12 of different sizes can be connected without the use of soldering or other special techniques. Each coaxial wire to be connected can be individually prepared. The innerconductor of one of the coaxial wires has a tuning fork type contact 14 attached thereto and the other coaxial wire has a spade type contact 16 attached thereto. An outer sleeve 18 is slid onto the smaller coaxial wire 12. The fork contact 14 and spade contact 16 of the separate wires are connected and then encapsulated in a plastic dielectric sleeve 20. The outer sleeve 18 is then slid over the dielectric sleeve 20 and the ends of the outer sleeve 18 are crimped tight onto the coaxial braid and jacket.

The marriage of separable connections (contacts) and nonseparable connections (crimped outer sleeve) enables an optimum mechanical system to be obtained. The completed connection provides an electrically blended transition. The contact system is encapsulated in an air tight environment and its metallic enclosure protects it from damage.
