Zone Contact Mechanism

Illustrated is a mechanism for use with printers, which facilitates the accurate sensing of the approach of the operator selected right-hand margin setting a predetermined number of units away.

During escapement of carrier 1 to the right, ski member 22 will contact and rotate finger 7 in a clockwise direction about pivot post 6. This action causes portion 5 to contact and rotate bail 15 in a counter-clockwise direction about an opening in housing 10 where bail 15 is journaled. Rotation of bail 15 will cause rotation of cantilever 14 carrying magnet 13. Magnet 13 will trip reed switch 12 on circuit card 11 and provide a signal to associated circuitry.

During the return of carrier 1, ski member 22 rotates in a counterclockwise direction about pivot screw 18 upon contacting finger 7. Finger 7 will not rotate due to pawl 8 acting against margin slider 4. Ski member 22 is secured to support 23 by screw 24 and biased by spring 21 attached to spring hook 19 and opening 20 in bracket 17, and rotates about pivot screw 18 only in a counterclockwise direction due to stop 25. Bracket 17 is secured to carrier 1 by screws 16. Margin adjuster 3 is used for positioning margin slider 4 between teeth 9 on margin rack 2.
