Abstract

Type bar rest 10 is driven between upper and lower case positions by crank arm 11 connected to cam 12. Keylever 13 controls two-position latch 14 which normally engages either stop 15 or stop 16 on auxiliary cam 17. Release of stop 15 or 16 allows spring 18 carried by cam 12 to rotate auxiliary cam 17 through projection 19, thus bringing cam 17 into engagement with continuously turning power roll 20. Projection 21 on cam 12 is picked up by the end of slot 22 in cam 17. Thus cam 12 is driven into engagement with power roll 20 to drive the type basket 10 through eccentric crank arm 11 to its other case position.

As crank arm 11 reaches the end of its stroke, pin 23 engages the angled surfaces of cam opening 24 and reacts to move slide 25 against wire spring 26. Spring 26 thus cushions the action by arresting movement of the large-mass type basket 10.
