Coupling

The coupling shown in exploded and in assembled view is used to transmit rotational drive from one shaft to another, while permitting some relative movement and misalignment of the shafts.

Identical dogs 1 are attached by screws 2 to each shaft 3. Pressure pads 4 provide mating surfaces for the dogs 1 for rotation of the shafts in one direction. Any small angular, parallel or axial movement of one shaft relative to the other is accommodated by relative sliding of one pad on the other. A spring clip S located in recesses 6 in dogs 1 is sufficiently strong to keep the pads 4 in contact during rotation of the shafts in the opposite direction.
