Abstract

Tape drive pinch roller actuation is provided by wedging a pinch roller mount into an actuated position. Pinch roller 10 is yieldably upwardly urged by spring 9 about shaft 11 to a tape disengaged position. Energizing coil 12 moves pinch roller 10 to the actuated or tape-engaging position.

Pinch Roller Actuation

Tape drive pinch roller actuation is provided by wedging a pinch roller mount into an actuated position. Pinch roller 10 is yieldably upwardly urged by spring 9 about shaft 11 to a tape disengaged position. Energizing coil 12 moves pinch roller 10 to the actuated or tape-engaging position.

Coil 12 pulls plunger 13 downwardly overcoming the upward urging of leaf spring 9. A slide block having camming surface 14 engages cam follower 15 moving pinch roller 10 into its actuated position by rotating shaft 11. The camming action of surface 14 against follower 15 prevents bounce. De- energizing coil 12 permits spring 9 to move the slide block upwardly, permitting counterrotation of shaft 11. Extension spring 17 connects the slide block to plunger 13. This spring connection smooths the actuation.

Eccentric screw 16 adjusts the axial position of pinch roller 10 such that the tape, not shown, may be constantly guided against a reference surface, not shown.
