Card Feed System

Cards are picked successively and turned through an acute angle by a rotatable card wheel.

Vertically reciprocable picker knife 1 (Fig. 1) feeds cards 2 from hopper 3 (inclined 18 degrees from the vertical) into one of five equally spaced radial grooves 4 in card feed wheel 5. The wheel then rotates 72 degrees. Groove 4 is defined in part by rearwardly curved surface 6 (Fig. 2) that allows the card to bow, without damage, and be withdrawn from between laterally spaced tabs 7 as wheel 5 rotates in the direction of arrow 8. Pusher 9 on endless conveyor 10 then moves card 2 in direction of arrow 11 between two longitudinally extending guide channels, not shown. Inclining hopper 3 facilitates feeding.
