Drill Feed Rate Indication

This arrangement will provide accurate feed rate indication for control of automated printed circuit stock drilling operations. A laminate "set-up" board 1 is utilized in conjunction with a conductive drill 2 to establish the rate indication.

In contacting top conductor 4 the drill completes a first circuit to establish current in resistor R1. Proceeding through the intervening insulation 5, the drill contacts bottom conductor 6 and establishes current in resistor R2 through a second circuit. By utilizing the initial current pulses in R1 and R2 to, respectively, start and stop a timer circuit 7, an indication is produced of the variable time required for the drill to feed the known distance D1 between the top surface of conductor 4 and the interior surface of conductor 6. The variable time is, therefore, directly proportional to and serves to indicate feed rate.
