Two Instructions and to Storage or to Storage

Both of the instructions are written in the System/360 RX format R1, D2 (X2, B2).

In the AND TO STORAGE (NTS), the logical product of the bits of the first and second operand is placed in the second operand location. Operands are treated as 32-bit unstructured logical quantities, and the connective AND is applied bit-by-bit. A bit position in the result is set to one if the corresponding bit positions in both operands contain a one; otherwise, the result is set to zero. All operands and results are valid. The first operand is not altered.

In the OR TO STORAGE (OTS), the logical sum of the bits of the first and second operand is placed in the second operand location. Operands are treated as 32-bit unstructured logical quantities, and the connective inclusive OR is applied bit-by-bit. A bit position in the result is set to one if one of the corresponding bit positions is one, or both operands contain a one; otherwise, the result bit is set to zero. All operands and results are valid. The first operand is not altered.

Neither instruction will change the condition code.

Main storage may be shared by a processor and its I/O channels. If the processor and a channel concurrently refer to the same storage location, the accesses normally are granted in a sequence that assigns higher priority to references by channels. If the first reference changes the contents of the location, any subsequent storage fetches obtain the new con...
