Abstract

Pick rolls 10 are rotatably disposed within a pick roll arm 12 that is in turn swingably mounted by a flexure 14, thus providing a mechanism with no wear points and which is very simple and low cost. Pick rolls 10 are removable as a unit from pick roll arm 12, against the action of spring pressed hub 16, so that rolls 10 may be easily replaced.

Flexure Mounted Document Pick Rolls

Pick rolls 10 are rotatably disposed within a pick roll arm 12 that is in turn swingably mounted by a flexure 14, thus providing a mechanism with no wear points and which is very simple and low cost. Pick rolls 10 are removable as a unit from pick roll arm 12, against the action of spring pressed hub 16, so that rolls 10 may be easily replaced.

Flexure 14 connects arm 12 with the bottom 17 of a hopper 18 for document cards 20. A throat knife 22 is disposed at the forward end of hopper 18 and is spaced from the bottom 17 by a distance only slightly greater than the thickness of a card 20, so that cards 20 may be moved outwardly of hopper 18 beneath knife 22. Bottom 17 is provided with slots 24 into which rolls 10 move for propelling a card 20 outwardly of hopper 18, and a linear actuator 25 is effective on arm 12 for moving rolls 10 into card actuating position.

Rolls 10 are mounted on a shaft 26 which has a trunnion 28 on one end, receivable in a bushing 30 carried by arm 12. Hub 16 is slidably and rotatably mounted in a bushing 32 carried by arm 12. Hub 16 has a central shaft portion 34 and radially extending key portions 36 and 38, which enter into similarly shaped cavities 34a, 36a, and 38a in the end of shaft 26 and pick roll section 10a opposite trunnion 28. Hub 16 is connected to pulley 40 by shaft portion 42 on which hub 16 is fixed by set screw 43, so that pulley 40 drives hub 16 and thereby rolls 10. Pulley 40 is rotat...
