Abstract

The figure illustrates a pack advancer mechanism and an improved follower weight. Hopper belts 1 move mass 2 which is pivotally fastened to support 4 by hinge 3. Support 4 holds card pack 5 in an upright position along the traverse of belt 1. Support 4 passes into the feeding area to maintain a constant even pressure on top of card pack 5 for steady feeding of one card at a time by feed belts 6 and 7. Hinge 3 allows the support 4 to follow the pack into the feed area without adding the weight of mass 2 to the force urging cards 5 into engagement with feed belt 6. As shown, mass 2 remains out of the feeding area to permit normal operation of feed belts 6, and even when only a few cards remain to be fed.
