Polarized Connector

This attachment on a flat-cable connector insures correct insertion and retention.

A circuit board carries a pin block which mates with contacts in a flat-cable connector. Retaining fingers and a polarizing tongue extend from the plastic attachment on the connector, which also holds the connector card and pin block together.

The retaining fingers and tongue guide the connectors into correct alignment and engagement with the pins. After the connectors are engaged with the pins, notches on the pin block mate with protrusions from the fingers, preventing undesired disconnection.
